Large International Scientific Collaborative Projects

Managing large international scientific collaborations requires a framework that holds from the kick-off to the final review. We put the project infrastructure in place, keep interim, annual and final reporting on schedule, draft and maintain the consortium agreement that fixes each partner’s roles and obligations, and run the internal and communication the grant agreement requires, internal and external. SNM has taken part in European Commission consortia in its own name, under PIC number 951025831.

Scientific Managers Network (opens in a new tab)

Scientific project management is a small profession, and most of what works in it is learned from other people doing the same job. SNM runs an open community for research managers and grant writers — the EU Research Funding Hub — where the questions that come up between projects get answered: how a reviewer read a particular section, what a reporting period actually demands, which template survived contact with a real audit. It is free to join, and it is where we also announce the events we run: kick-offs, general assemblies, workshops and training schools, prepared and minuted end to end.

From a scattered idea to a structured outline Loose, unordered marks on the left pass through a funnel and come out on the right as an ordered list of numbered sections.

Project Strategy Builder

The Project Strategy Builder is the questionnaire we use at the start of an engagement. It works through the eighteen points that decide whether a project holds together — the objectives, the consortium, the work plan, the budget, the impact and the exploitation route — and it turns a research idea into an outline you can put in front of partners. It is free to use, and your answers stay in your browser unless you choose to send them to us.

Projects we have managed

SNM was a partner in ProteomeXchange, the international proteomics data consortium funded under FP7, from 2014; and a consortium partner in AnkaTheraHub, the Ankara theranostics development centre financed under the EU’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance, from 2023. Between them the managers at SNM have run seven international projects and networks since 2006, under FP6, FP7 and Horizon 2020. They are listed, with their grant numbers, on the previous-experience page.
