Since its foundation in 2013, SNM has written, reviewed or translated more than 50 project proposals for a range of funding bodies:
- European Commission, across Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. Under Horizon 2020: Pillar I, Excellent Science (ERC, FET, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions including ITN, Research Infrastructures); Pillar II, Industrial Leadership (LEIT, FTI, SME Instrument); Pillar III, Societal Challenges (Health; Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture). Also the Spreading Excellence instruments — ERA Chairs and Twinning. Under Horizon Europe the same work continues across the three pillars and the mission and cluster calls that replaced them.
- National Spanish, Swiss and British funding bodies.
A number of those applications were funded, among them research-infrastructure grants. We name neither the clients nor the grants, and we give no amounts or dates that would identify them. The award belongs to the coordinator who won and ran it, not to the people who helped draft the text, and research organisations routinely prefer not to advertise that they used outside help.
What that means in practice is that the same person who writes your Excellence section has seen what a successful one looks like in that call, and what the panel wrote about the unsuccessful ones. We publish no success rate: EU calls are decided at single-digit rates by design, and a percentage without its denominator tells you nothing.
